How to Perform dumbbell standing calf raises
Follow these steps to properly perform dumbbell standing calf raises :
- Grasp the appropriate weight dumbbells and hold them at your sides while standing on the floor. Your feet should be a bit less than shoulder width apart.
- Raise your body up on the balls of your toes, going up as high as possible.
- Hold at the top for a moment, then lower yourself back to the floor.
- Continue to raise and lower yourself and the weight without resting until you have completed the appropriate number of reps. You should be near muscle failure at the end of the set.
Precautions when doing this exercise:
- If you are unsteady with the dumbbells or it is too heavy, try the exercise without weights. You can also grasp onto something, such as a handrail, to steady yourself.
- Don't bounce up and down. Do the exercise slowly and in a controlled manner.
- For a longer range of motion you can perform this exercise on the steps. Use the lowest step and only one dumbbell, using your free hand to hold on to the hand rail. The ball of your foot should be firmly on the step, and when you lower yourself your heel will go below the level of the step.
