How to Properly Perform Dumbbell Shrugs
- While standing, grasp the dumbbells and hold them at your sides, with your palms facing inward toward your body.
- Squeeze your shoulders upwards, as if trying to touch them to your ears.
- Hold them briefly at the top and then slowly lower them back to the starting position.
- Continue to raise and lower the dumbbells without resting until you have completed the appropriate number of reps. You should be near muscle failure at the end of the set.
Tips and Precautions when doing this exercise:
- Don't 'roll' your shoulders in a circular motion, just lift them straight up and down.
- As always, don't hold your breath during the exercise.
