List of Abdominal (Ab) Exercises

Abdominalsanatomy map

Your abdominal muscles, also known as your abs, are a set of muscles running from the bottom of your ribcage to the top of your pelvis bone. They also include your obliques, which are the muscles wrapping around your sides.

Your abdominal muscles are important for supporting your trunk, and taking strain off of your back muscles. Often people with back problems simply need stronger abs.

Many people desire '6-pack' abs where the muscles are well defined and look like a washboard, but doing abdominal exercises will only help build up the ab muscles. Losing the body fat that covers the ab muscles is also necessary for the '6-pack' ab look.

There's a vast array of abdominal exercises you can perform, using anything from no equipment other than the floor to very complex abdominal machines at fitness clubs. But for the most part you will need very little equipment to get in a good ab workout.
